As you've probably figured out by now, I am a lighting technician and programmer for entertainment. What this means is that I help set up, program, operate, and maintain a diverse amount of lighting equipment for shows ranging from a small pageant to enormous arena rock concerts.
Another aspect of this job is travel. During the almost seven years I was on tour, I travelled to almost 160 separate cities around the world. It's definitely a job that has it's perks. But contrary to popular belief, it's not always the easiest schedule. Sure, once a show was up and running, I might just work 3 hours a day. But in the process of moving a show from city to city, I could work 40 or more hours in just 3 days (and even that is low!). I have indeed had work weeks of 115 hours (unfortunately, not yet under union contract, so no overtime paid!!), and THOSE are not fun! Now that I am settled down and not on tour any more, travel is still a huge part of the job, as many shows I work for are in a different city from home.
Below is a selection of items detailing my journey into the business, from the time I was a kid until now. You can read about how I started and what got me where I am today, check out my current resume, or even see a listing of every show I have done (not including one-offs, concerts, corporate parties and such) and my position on each.
