Diana: A Celebration
As mentioned before, Diana was my first professional solo lead position. This meant I was responsible not only for the design and drafting responsibilities, but sourcing and ordering all fixtures, cable, truss, etc, whether from rental or for purchase.

I started with Diana in early August with the design and the drafting of plots, working with the same lighting designer I had worked with on Starlight Express. Since I had never lit a museum exhibit, it meant a lot of learning the little intricacies, like how much light could be on certain objects. Over the course of several weeks, the plots, and the exhibit itself, mutated through several different versions, until we came up with the final. Before long, in mid-September, it was time to install the exhibit into Ft. Lauderdale.

A general install for the exhibit takes about five days for the initial rigging, cabling, fixture hanging, etc. Usually in these five days, we also install any supplemental lighting such as gift shop tracklighting or entrance halls. After the initial five days, the lighting department usually takes a week off while the other departments install object cases, walls, carpet, etc. When we return, it's usually another week of additional lighting, then final focus and touch up. Focusing generally is done bit by bit, as each gallery is available. Therefore, it usually takes about four days to focus. The Styles Gallery alone takes a full day of focus, as the positions can be difficult to get to, and this gallery has almost 250 fixtures!

Below, find a little more info about the exhibit, including the cities travelled to in the past and future, system specs of the latest install, and photos as well!
