We arrived into Machester and found the hotel to be almost exactly like the week before: a couch and a bed. We were thoroughly annoyed, but decided there wasn't much we could do about it, and went on. This week the group was split between two hotels, with most staying in another hotel and about 15 of us in this one. As we looked around and saw the TGI Fridays attached to the hotel and the huge grocery store across the street, we figured we had the better location.
But as my roommate and I sat in the room, I began to notice that something just wasn't right. Something was missing. It kept occuring to me, but I just couldn't figure out what it was. Then I asked my roommate, "Where's the phone?" We looked around...none. No phone? Couldn't be. So we went to the front desk to ask about it, and met about half the cast in there asking where the phones were. OK, so we weren't the first to notice the absence of our most prized furnishing. You see, most of us use email as our only form of communication with the rest of the world, and periodically, we might pick the phone up and call someone. Once in a while, someone might try to phone us as well. None of this is possible when you don't have a phone. As well, the front desk answered the phone "TGI Fridays" promting anyone who was trying to dial the hotel to hang up, thinking they had the wrong number.
While most of us were thoroughly annoyed with the rooms and the lack of phone, we decided to make the best of it by hanging out in Fridays each night and chatting instead of sitting in dead rooms. I guess that's better anyway, huh?
As I remember, i didn't really do anything of interest while in Manchester. It was a pretty plain week really. But yet again, after a very late night at load-out, we had a 9:00am bus to hit, and I barely made it. So we took off for Newcastle, England.
